Live streamers on Twitch are making a butt load of money. Big names on the platform make the average person’s yearly salary per month. On paper, live streaming is just playing video games or chatting on a live channel but there might be more to it than meets the eye.

Find out just how much does a live streamer make.

Twitch Audience Point Of View

It’s pretty much a running joke amongst viewers to mock streamers for calling broadcasting a ‘job’. Viewers often refer to streaming as “not a real job” because to them it’s extremely easy, which could definitely be true in some cases. However, the audience doesn’t see all the work that goes behind the scenes or even ignore the upfront disadvantages.

What So Hard About Streaming?

Broadcasting is definitely not a physically demanding job but the difficulties that streamers face are sometimes pretty severe since you can’t really experience them in other job positions.

The hardest part about live streaming that the majority of people overlook is definitely the mental part. While mental health is a pretty abstract problem it’s definitely real. Live streaming is an entertainment business and the streamer’s job is to do exactly that — entertain.

These people are under constant pressure to deliver, which the majority couldn’t handle in the first place since most people struggle presenting their work in front of the class or crumble under pressure.

Consequences & Backlash

Streamers and celebrities in general, have an extreme amount of responsibilities put on them by the public. Whether it’s mistakes, actions, or just general opinions, famous people face constant criticism and backlash for everything they do.

This kind of backlash is also a lot of times cause by ‘trolls’ with undermining intentions, which streamers have to deal with every day.

Competitive Nature Of Twitch

In order for streamers to make money, they need to stay relevant. Taking a short break from streaming sometimes causes irreparable damage to their channel numbers. Streamers sometimes have to rack up ridiculous hours without consistent breaks just to keep their channel relevant.

This adds another kind of pressure on top of everything and breakdowns are not uncommon in the community where fatigue is definitely one of the causing factors.

Real-Life Dangers

Everyone wants to become famous until it really happens. Creating and growing a like-minded community is definitely something positive, however fandoms can sometimes get out of hand and borderline dangerous. Celebrities get swarmed by media and crazy fans all the time.

While fan encounters seem to be annoying at most some people turn into full-blown stalkers.

The ultimate example would be Christina Grimmie, a famous singer who got killed by her own crazed fan during her performance.

Luckily there hasn’t been such a terrible incident in the live streaming community yet. But the platform has had a fair share of fanatical moments of not just stalkers but of swatting and doxing as well.

In February alone, Twitch had a number of crazy fan lash outs moments.
